The Hidden Fire: Yoga for Inflammation

Inflammation is now felt to be a key precipitating factor in the development is many, if not most, of the chronic diseases of aging, such as diabetes, heart disease and cancers.

Triad Yoga welcomes back Baxter Bell, MD, C-IAYT, to shine a light on chronic inflammation and how yoga is an excellent tool for helping to put out the fire of excessive inflammation. Baxter will share accessible, understandable information about the role of inflammation, in health and disease, as well as practical yoga tools to address it.

The workshop schedule:

Friday, March 29th, 6:30PM - 8:30PM ~ Cooling the Fire from a Long Week!

We will learn about how the right amounts of inflammation are important in actually keeping us healthy, and how to do a great yoga practice to support the healthy function of our immune system.

Saturday, March 30th, 9:00AM - 12:00PM ~ The Slow Burning Wildfire Within

Chronic, ongoing low levels of inflammation are now connected with the development of so many diseases.  It is surprising this is not the number one issue to tackle to keep us healthy as we age.  In this session, we will look at how this happens, the risk factors for developing chronic information, and an asana approach to bringing it into better balance.

Saturday, March 30st, 2:30PM - 4:30PM ~ Inflammaging: What It Is and How to Slow It Down!

We will look at this relatively new concept of the connection between aging and inflammation, and look at how non-asana tools of breath-work and simple meditation may be some of our best fire fighters!

Sunday, March 31st, 9:00AM - 12:00PM ~ Inflammation Nation?

Sunil Pao, MD, in his book, "The Inflammation Nation", talks about all the risk factors for developing chronic inflammation, and how our lifestyles and diets are huge contributors to the problem.  We will look more closely at these issues, and enjoy a complete practice for addressing inflammation.

Baxter Bell, MD, C-IAYT, eRYT500, fell in love with yoga in 1993 while he was working full-time as a family physician.  His appreciation for the potential of yoga for fostering health, healing, and equanimity was so great, he soon stepped down from his medical practice and trained to become a yoga teacher.  Now he focuses on teaching yoga full time, both to ordinary students of all ages and physical conditions, and to the next generation of yoga teachers, to whom he teaches anatomy and yoga therapy along with his accessible, skillful style of yoga.  He also sees students privately, helping them use yoga to help heal from and/or cope with a wide range of medical conditions.  At this point, with 17 years of teaching experience under his belt, Baxter brings a unique perspective to his teaching, combining his understanding of anatomy and medicine with his skill at instructing people from all walks of life and all levels of ability.

In addition to teaching classes, workshops and retreats internationally, Baxter is a past presenter at Yoga Journal Conferences, and the International Association of Yoga Therapy's SYTAR Conference, and teaches online courses and classes at Yoga U Online.  Baxter is also the co-author of the popular book, "Yoga for Healthy Aging", and the co-founder and writer for the popular Yoga for Healthy Aging blog, where he shares his knowledge of medical conditions, anatomy, and yoga with practitioners and teachers across the world.  He has written articles for Yoga Journal, Yoga Therapy Today Magazine, and the journal of the International Association of Yoga Therapy.  And he is often quoted as an expert on yoga and health by major national news outlets such as the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal.
