The Triad Yoga 500 Hour Teacher Certification Program Information
Yoga students go to group and private classes for a wide variety of reasons that range from physical well being to spiritual guidance. They are seeking beneficial instruction. It is the yoga teacher's responsibility to provide instruction that is ethically grounded in the traditions of yoga while also integrating complementary and contemporary knowledge about the body, breath, and consciousness.
Yoga's roots are in the soil of India and they have been growing and spreading through out the world for 5000 years. Once considered to be an occult practice, many contemporary scientists who study the effects of yoga practice now take yoga seriously.
Therefore, today's effective yoga teacher is a student, practitioner, historian, linguist, scientist, ethicist, physical therapist, psychologist and philosopher all wrapped up into one being who cares about other people as much as his or her own self.
While it takes a lifetime of study to achieve mastery of yogic skills, the support of a well-designed program and enthusiastic community can accelerate one's progress on the path of wisdom.
Please join us as we walk this path together in Triad Yoga's 500 Hour Teacher Training and Continuing Education Program. This 2 year program uses a flexible module format so that graduates of 200 hour teacher training programs can begin at any time.
Within the 2 years, along with an orientation day, there are a total of 6 modules and two 5 day intermediate intensives taught by the program directors. The directors also teach a special all day class on refining teaching skills. Three additional guest faculty modules are offered in the program. The guest faculty includes: Elise Browning Miller (Scoliosis, Back Care and Therapeutics), Nicolai Bachman (Ayurveda, Yogic Philosophy, and Sanskrit Language), and Bo Forbes (Yoga & Emotional Health).
The program also includes reading assignments and time assisting with the program directors in their classes and workshop programs.
Graduates of the program will prepare a final teaching project for assessment.
Although the program can be completed in 2 years, each student can work at his or her own reasonable pace and opt to complete the program over the course of three or four years.
The Co-Directors:
Terry Brown, E-RYT 500, is the founder and co-director of Triad Yoga Institute. He has conducted yoga classes in North Carolina for 15 years. His 25 years of yoga training and certifications include extensive studies with JJ Gormley and Aadil Palkhivala. In addition to his yoga studies, he is a licensed physical therapy assistant, registered with the Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT 500 level, and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. His knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology provides a firm foundation for his asana classes.
Suzanne Newton, E-RYT 500, is the director of New Garden Yoga studio in Greensboro. She has studied with many revered teachers such as BKS Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar, Patricia Walden, Judith Lasater and other talented and masterful teachers since 1983. Our Approach to Teaching Training
Because we have studied extensively with alignment – oriented teachers, we promote this 'style' as an excellent methodology. We integrate the importance of staying in touch with the breath while also being physically precise during the execution of the asana and pranayama. Whether moving slowly, moderately, or quickly, precise alignment reduces the probability of experiencing a yoga injury.
We know from our decades of teaching experience that it is vitally important to understand the wide variety of individual issues that yoga students have and how these personal challenges can be addressed in yoga. This is true in your own practice and doubly true when you are teaching!
Our program is fun, informative, challenging, and transformative!
All Modules meet at Triad Yoga Institute located at 1712-A Spring Garden Street, Greensboro, NC.
