The Certification Program
The Triad Yoga Teacher Certification Program is designed to help teachers, future teachers, and enthusiastic students inspire and deepen their understanding and practice of Hatha Yoga. It is the Institute's intention to help develop the kind of teacher who is excited and passionate about sharing the joy and transformational powers of yoga.
Yoga's increasing popularity brings with it the need for instructors confident and qualified to bring forth its teachings in our communities. This comprehensive course of study is designed to help students and teachers systematically build knowledge and develop teaching skills. Students of this program may wish to simply deepen their own practice, or develop an understanding of the principles needed to lead safe, instructional, and inspirational classes.
The Program Curriculum
The program curriculum is designed to explore many of the traditional components of yoga, including the asanas, pranayama, meditation, the energetic body, and applied yogic philosophy. You will also be introduced to anatomy and principles of alignment so you can adapt yoga postures to suit different needs.

- Ethical guidelines for teaching and lifestyle
- Guidelines for the business of yoga
- Nutrition for healthier living
Non-contact hours include home study, practice, class room observations and assisting with the faculty, and teaching hours.

Student-Teacher Requirements
To become an effective teacher, we must first experience being the student. The Triad Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Certification Program is designed for the yoga student with a minimum of two years continuous study and who is now ready to deepen their own practice while learning to teach.
Students of Extended Studies
The Triad Yoga Institute recognizes and accepts that some students may desire to take this training program as an opportunity to deepen their personal yoga experiences and gain new insight on the effect yoga can have in one's life. These students may opt to not participate in the teaching skills portions of the program and may receive a letter of completion.
Faculty
Terry Brown, ERYT 500, co-director of the Triad Yoga Institute, has been a student of yoga and meditation since 1984. Terry's extensive journey in the study of yoga has led him to study with a variety of teachers and traditions, however he now considers Aadil Palkhivala, founder of Purna Yoga, his main teacher and influence. Terry is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, holds an Advanced Yoga Teacher Certificate and is a Certified Purna Yoga Teacher. He teaches alignment-based asana to enhance the connection of the energetic and physical bodies, thereby enhancing the yoga poses' benefits and healing effects. Terry also combines his knowledge of the human anatomy and experience in working with physical limitations into his teaching.
Martha Garrett, RYT 500, has been teaching Yoga since 1995. Martha received her certification in the teaching of yoga from Lillah Schwartz of Lighten Up! Yoga Center in Asheville, NC. Her studies with Lillah, a Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor, influenced her understanding of alignment techniques and attention to detail. She is also strongly inspired by teachers Donna Farhi and Eric Schiffman, both of whom she feels embody the spiritual teachings of Yoga. Martha believes the yoga teachers of our communities need to develop the tools useful to tailor classes to meet the variety of physical abilities and limitations with focus on proper alignment, use of breath, and the creation of a light heart. An artist and teacher of art, she understands how to encourage students uniquely in their practice while creating an area of challenge and support.
